Sunsets in July
The pineapple pattern is one of those very old quilt patterns. A variation of the Log Cabin pattern, it consists of strips sewn around a centre square. The pineapple is a traditional symbol of hospitality.
My pineapple quilt is built around a centre square of red velvet; colours include gold, orange, pink, red, and purple - positively yummy. Rather than having blocks that are all the same, mine are all different and I think that’s what makes this quilt so vibrant.
This quilt was inspired by summer evenings at our cottage on Molega Lake, where the sunsets are so spectacular we’d bring out the Adirondacks to the end of the dock to watch.
Fabrics used are from Alison Glass’ Kaleidoscope line; they are thread-dyed, meaning the threads in the warp and weft are different colours, giving the fabric a lovely sheen and richness. The middle layer of the quilt is cotton. This quilt is hand quilted.
